Welcome to the shed! After being injured and off the bike for nine months, I decided to do something useful with my time, and learn how to wrench on my own bike. Luckily my husband is a patient teacher. Join us each week as we drink too much coffee, make big messes, and fix bikes.

Join us today in a new location the NOBL Wheels headquarters on Vancouver Island, British Columbia while I learn everything that goes in to building a wheel from scratch. A huge thank you to NOBL and Liam for taking the time to teach me and for making sure I didn't screw up too badly. If you've decided (like we have) that building your own wheels is way too hard and you'd rather leave it to the...

An upgrade you've never considered | Syd Fixes Bikes

Today I'll be replacing the headset on my Niner JET 9 RDO with the Enduro Bearings Maxhit Zero-Stack headset. Bearings are an often overlooked upgrade but can have huge performance benefits. For example, this Maxhit headset integrates the bearings into the headset cups, which makes it possible to use bigger ball bearings. What does this mean? Stronger, more durable headset bearings that move mo...

Today I'm tackling my first bearing replacement and learning to install and remove bearings using a variety of tools, everything from a bearing press to bearing punches and even a blind hole puller. With Macky's help I'll be installing some Enduro Bearings XD-15 hub bearings in my DT Swiss 180 hubs. This is the same process for DT Swiss 240 and 350 hubs (and a similar process to most wheels) so...

Learning to true a wheel WITH AND WITHOUT A TRUING STAND | Syd Fixes Bikes
Love you Syd, I so identify with this.
It is my nature to go overkill or frivolously upgrade my toys. I bought a decent Norco hardtail with pretty nice components, it's an XC bike so it has pretty normal 2.25 tires on it, so naturally I started trying to find out how much wider I can go ... Not that I do anything at all that approaches the limits of these tires. Fortunately this time I resisted the impulse and didn't de-optimize my bike just because.
So many bike adjustment videos on RUclips that say less over a ~15 minute or longer video. The brevity and information share here is excellent.
I come to this channel first when I need to know how to do something -- thank you!
Just true the rim. The rest is annoying filler. You’re not curing cancer.
first step: buy a house with a yard.
Mind officially blown! Awesome video!
The name jesus clip is because it goes flying and then you have to go find it. "oh jesus". Source: was an office printer tech.
You forgot to remove what caused the punture
I was a little surprised it took her a moment to figure out whether tightening the spoke would make the sound higher or lower. Also they have to get rid of lefty/righty for what way to tighten or loosen something. I never got why they do that. Clockwise or counterclockwise always made more sense to me. I remember my grandmother screaming at me to turn the bolt or handle or whatever it was right. And I would have instantly understood if she said turn it clockwise.
Help! Im looking for a video of this quality that focuses on Caliper Brakes! I have a set of Bontrager speed limit brakes that im battling with Any recommendations of videos are hugely appreciated
Omg thankyou, that barrel adjuster explanation just eliminated my guesswork! Thanks! You guys make a great team in this videos
Wouldn't it be even faster by leaving on the rear wheel? If you are careful not to get any mineral oil anywhere, why not?
Wow!!! Great to see you guys again
I don't have a stand, so I used a white chalk rubbing on the rim to determine what's wrong. It leaves a heavyer trace where woble is worst
Also, while it is true, that it is great tu use sound, in my experience it is not everything. Sound can also change by spoke length and weight, not just by tention. So I say use sound to help, but dont obsess over it too much.
I’m having a really hard time putting my tire and inner tube back on the rim i if you could please give me any tips I would greatly appreciate it I have a e bike not sure if that makes a different with how you go about it
Ditch the crescent wrench ;-)
So you did it without tubeless tape and sealant? Anyone got any reviews of this method months or a year later? Thanks!
26:45 why do both HSC and LSC knobs turn together when you were only turning one of them? Sorry I’ve been a Rockshox guy but just got a Fox 38 and it does that too.
Some times I use a feeler gauge (paper would work) between pad and rotor on one side lightly pressing on caliper with my hand ensuring gauge between rotor and pad is in full contact then tighten. Its sort of like half manual half paper trick, sometimes paper on both sides just doesn't work, one piston more aggressive than the other
Hey Syd... i did mtb race in the past.. i am back on track after 10 years i am riding a 26 wheel mtb.. do you think it is a good choice getting back on track with a well known mtb? i will be switching to the newer one (29er) in the future.. have you got an opinion about that?
Everybody on RUclips is telling me I’m doing something wrong. Gym, kitchen, mowing the lawn, golf swing, wiping my ass. Why should a MTB tire video be any different.
The spring has a left and a right? For real?
Such a shame that the mr know-it-all keeps interrupting the presenter😢. Next time, decide who will hold the camera and who will do the talking.
Looks good and easy!
Wasted Time is your Channel! Commercial Trash!
This is way better than the Park Tool video. Much easier to follow!
I follow all instructions but when I pump the tire nothing budges. Thoughts? I have a decent floor pump
I've just done my first one today. Another tip I got from a video was to spray a little soapy water around each side of rim - between rim and tyre. This helps the tyre slide onto bead easier. Worked perfect.
Hi... I have a question please. Can I use an inner tube if I wanted to by-pass the tape procedure? Thank you
that bike is sexy, also thanks this worked great for me!
I've seen tools that I didn't know they even existed. Building bike wheels is really hard and I'll leave to a professional. Great video, though.
The presenter, sydfixesbikes, is making me a DIY bike mechanic of some sort. Thanks, now I can bleed my own brakes.
Very informative:)
I don't know if you'll see this but I just want to sincerely thank you two for making the *only* bike maintenance tutorials that are slow-paced, clear, thorough and that don't assume I am a bike mechanic who knows all the terminology and that actually explains the (surprisingly simple) mechanisms involved. I will never remember a series of 12 steps but show me how it works and I'll never struggle again. This applies to all your videos. I'm not sure why it has taken so long to find a channel like this. Maybe all the other ones are more interested in getting you into the shop than empowering you! Cheers.
This wheel set worth while or spend the extra $ on a DT 350?
The best video ever to show you just exactly how to do it the right way i love hiw y'all broke it down and made it simple now off i go to try and do my wheel's
too much chit chat and goofing around
great team, great video - you made bleeding brakes look like fun!
2:09 when having to install a new handlebar. One may need to cut or to replace for a longer one.
You can also put in a tube to seat the bead. Then take the tube out, but only unseat one side of the tire. You'll then be only needing to seat one side, rather than both.
You need to take pictures when you're pulling stuff apart that you're not familiar with. I fix stuff for a living and it's a vital habit.
Thanks for a great explanation and demonstration, just converted my wife’s NOS Fox 34 to a 150. Thanks so much DT
I love the info in your videos!!!! You keep me and the guys riding
Fuck a 12 minute long video. I don’t care about your personalities
Im one of those people who basically other than checking the cylinder pressure once in a while neglected my shocks but attest to fox it lasted 16 yrs (fox float R purchased 2008) with no problems and it was just a valve failure but im going to do it properly and recondition it she should be good for another 16yrs then. Cheers for the info
Thank you 🙏
Seems like the guy should be doing the video. She's asking how to do it. Why not let the person with a actual knowledge show us. I stopped watching because of this.
Followed this technique on my Campagnolo hydraulic brakes and had the same results. I used the Campagnolo bleeding kit, opening only the lever bleed port, screwing in the syringe (finger tight) and adding a bit of mineral oil. Alternated short lever throws, long pauses, longer lever throws, until I was satisfied with the brake feel and I couldn’t see more bubbled coming up. Got the lever feeling I was looking for. Also, as you pointed out, I didn’t use the bleeding block - I installed new pads and followed this procedure (naturally, wheel on). The internet seems full of Shimano and SRAM content - so I hope Campy users out there know they can do this too.
"If it goes PSSS, then don't touch it." That's some solid advice. 😂
Thanks! I was about ready to give up and go find a friend with an air compressor. The last two sets of tires I had went on with a floor pump no tricks/no problem but this set I was just putting on would even begin to seat. Thanks to your tips I'm all setup and ready to ride again!
